LOCAL CUISINE |
It is not easy to introduce a foreign visitor to Belgrade's secrets of local gastronomy. There is no adequate translation for a lot of dishes, they are not a part of cuisine of other peoples, although they can be prepared from ingredients found in any European country. This is, however, a reason good enough for a thorough study of the Serbian national cuisine evolved from the unpredictable mixture of historical influences at the crossroads of civilizations. The restaurants in Skadarlija, famous bohemian quarter, traditionally promote the national cuisine, but their offer includes international dishes as well. Nearly all restaurants also have live music with a traditional repertoire. There are a lot of Italian, Chinese, International and National restaurants, Fast food places, baker's shops in each part of Belgrade. You can eat in the center of the city, on the water, in the streat or some pub.
If you want to be your own chef, you can buy all the ingridients for your dish in Maxi discont, Mini-Maxi or Pecabeta store, or on one of many markets that Belgrade is famous for. |
|
SHOPPING |
In Belgrade you can shop from home (teleshop), a little less using the Internet, or experience some "live" shopping". Belgrade merchants prefer cash payments, although credit cards are welcome too. There are several shopping zones in the center of the city, like Knez Mihajlova street, Terazije, Boulevard of the king Aleksandar and a few representative shopping centers in New Belgrade. Some of the large halls at the Belgrade Fairground have been permanently converted into a shopping center with countless little shops dealing in clothing, technical devices, cosmetics, food and all sorts useful gadgets. The main advantage of this BAZAAR (as it is officially called), is that it is open Sundays as well. The Belgrade Fairground is a great place to shop when various fairs are staged and especially during the "New Year Fair".
